Micro-ultrasonographic Examination of Scrotal Lesion

Abstract
With the advent of technical innovation in real time ultrasonography, ultrasound has proven to be increasingly effective in evaluating scrotal pathology.
Herein we examined the effectiveness of diagnostic ultrasound in 60 patients with scrotal lesions.
The results were as follows:
1) Out of total 60 patients, 52 were unilateral and 8 were bilateral scrotal lesions. Total 68 cases were examined.
2) Of 14 cases with acute scrotum, ultrasonography detected 12 cases with acute epididymitis, one case with spermatic cord torsion and one case with epididymal abscess.
3) Of 40 cases with sub acute scrotal mass, surgical exploration was done in 24 cases. 23 cases were same as post-operative diagnosis (95.8%). One case with epididymal hematoma was confused to sperm granuloma.
4) Of 6 cases with testicular trauma, 2 had testicular rupture, 3 had testicular contusion and one revealed testicular atrophy due to previous orchiopexy.
5) Accurately localized the site of testis in 5 out of 8 impalpable-undescended testis (62.5%) .
We conclude that scrotal ultrasound is a rapid, noninvasive, easily applied and accurate diagnostic method for various scrotal pathologic conditions.
